Box Score UNION, N.J. – The TCNJ men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Kean club on Saturday afternoon, and the Cougars defeated the Lions, 98-64.
 
The Lions matched the shooting of the Cougars in the first half as the Lions raced out to a 12-4 lead in the first five minutes of action. The Lions scored the first seven points of the game, with 
Danny Bodine hitting a three pointer on the opening possession. 
Jason Larranaga and 
Jim Clemente followed with buckets to stake the Lions to the early 7-0 lead.
 
After a pair of Kean scores, 
Anthony DiCaro hit a three pointer and Bodine scored on a dunk to make it 12-4 with 14:40 left in the first half. Kean pulled back into the game and pulled ahead, but the Lions used an 11-2 run to retake a five-point lead. After a Clemente bucket, the Lions got three pointers from 
Trevor Covey, Bodine and Larranaga to give TCNJ a 30-25 lead with 5:58 remaining in the first.
 
Kean began to heat up, though, finishing the first half on a 17-4 run to take a 42-34 lead.
 
That strong finish to the first half carried over in a big way for Kean in the second half. The Cougars scored 56 points in the half, shooting 69.2 percent (18-for-26) from the field while also making 17-of-19 from the free-throw line. A 21-6 run over an eight-minute stretch in the second half turned a 10-point game with 16:29 remaining into a 74-49 tally with 8:19 to play in the game.
 
For the game, Kean shot 59.3 percent from the field while also making 60 percent (9-for-15) of its three-point attempts. Kean won the turnover battle, 18-6, and in points off turnovers, 27-6.
 
Bodine led the Lions with 12 points, and Covey joined him with a pair of makes from three-point range. Clemente was the other Lion to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
 
TCNJ will look to get back on track when it travels to Wilkes on Monday for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
