EWING, N.J. – In the home opener, the No. 11 TCNJ men's swimming and diving team came out with a 193-69 statement dual meet victory against No. 21 Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Ryan Higgins recorded a pair of top-5 times in the nation to guide the Lions (2-0), which as a team won all 12 individual events and both relays in a complete sweep of the Garnet (2-1).
GOLDEN RACES
- The Lions set the tone in the 200 Medley Relay to kick off the meet, as the relay team of Andrew Kidchob, Ryan VanDeVeen, Richard Park and Milo Whitley combined for a time of 1:32.18 for the victory.
- Sophomore Gavin Formon cruised to his first golden finish of the meet in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:52.74. The distance free star would follow up with a top place finish in the 500 free after clocking a 4:46.38.
- The sprint free went to senior James McChesney, who took first place in both the 100 and 200 freestyle with stellar times of 46.42 and 1:43.89. McChesney would complete his trifecta of individual top-place finishes by winning the 100 fly with his time of 50.90.
- In the 50 free, super senior Dixon Kahler won the event with a time of 21.49.
- Higgins' standout day began in the 200 back, where his time of 1:50.20 cleared second place by nearly seven seconds. The junior's race in the 200 IM was just as dominant, with his time of 1:54.07 was five seconds ahead of the field.
- Kidchob dominated the 100 back with his top time of 51.61, which cleared second place by nearly two seconds.
- VanDeVeen won both breaststroke events, first winning the 100 yard race with a time of 57.88 to beat out teammate Shawn Kushner. The junior would follow up by leading a sweep in the 200 yard race, beating out teammates Kushner and Dylan Negron with his top time of 2:07.97.
- Freshman Jonah Stein joined in with a golden finish of his own in the 200 fly to lead a TCNJ sweep, as he beat out fellow classmate Pablo Salazar and Higgins with a time of 1:56.73.
- The blue and gold closed out the meet with a win in the 200 Free Relay, as the quartet of Park, Kahler, McChesney and Whitley clocked a relay time of 1:24.53.
UP NEXT
The Lions return to the pool on November 11th to take on Ramapo in a road matchup at 2 p.m. Traveling separately, the TCNJ divers will compete at West Chester starting at 10 a.m.
