EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ field hockey team earned the No. 2 seed in the NJAC Tournament and will host No. 3 Kean in a semifinal showdown on Wednesday.
Rowan overtook the Lions for the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage by virtue of Montclair State's victory over TCNJ and the Profs' ensuing win at Ramapo. The Lions, meanwhile, emerged at the head of a three-way tie for second place with Kean and Stockton thanks to their head-to-head victory over Rowan during the regular season.
Kean is the No. 3 seed, while Stockton is the No. 4 seed and will head to Rowan on Wednesday night.
TCNJ (10-7) defeated both Kean and Rowan during the regular season. Back on October 7, the Lions came from behind to edge the Cougars, 2-1, on
Bella DiNardo's go-ahead goal in the third quarter of their matchup in Ewing. The Lions upended Rowan, 3-2, on fourth-quarter goals from
Giavanna Downs and
Rayhanah Ahmed, whose tally with 2:41 to play proved the game-winner.
The Lions fell, 4-2, at Stockton during the regular season.
Should TCNJ take down Kean for a second time on Wednesday, they would advance to the NJAC championship game against the Rowan-Stockton winner. The Lions would travel to Rowan, but a Stockton upset over the Profs would flip the title game to the TCNJ Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
