Kidchob Leads Men’s Swimming and Diving Past Salisbury

10/7/2023 8:16:00 PM

SALISBURY, MD. – The TCNJ men's swimming and diving team dominated their season opener dual meet with a lopsided 173-89 road victory Saturday afternoon.

The Lions won ten individual events and both relays while also snapping 10 Maggs Pool records to cap off a dominant team performance in the pool.

While TCNJ typically competes in pools with lengths of 25 yards, the Seagulls' pool instead featured a longer length of 25 meters, thus resulting in what might appear to be slower than usual times.

GOLDEN RACES
  • The Lions began the season with a stellar race in the 200 Medley Relay, as the quartet of Andrew Kidchob, Ryan VanDeVeen, Richard Park, Dixon Kahler combined for a time of 1:45.37 to take the win. The relay time set a new Maggs Pool record, while Kidchob's leadoff in the 50 back set an individual record as well.
  • Gavin Formon cruised to a win in the 800 Free, as his time of 8:37.39 finished over 11 seconds faster than the runner up time.
  • The 200 Free saw a TCNJ sweep with James McChesney placing first, and the freshmen duo of Keilan Moran and Mason Bushay taking second and third, respectively. McChesney's time of 1:56.90 broke the previous pool record.
  • VanDeVeen set his first Maggs Pool record of the meet in the 50 Breast, winning the event with a time of 29.35.
  • In the 100 Fly, Kidchob was a step above the field, finishing first with a time of 56.80 to set new pool record.
  • The 50 Free saw Kahler place first by clocking a 23.98.
  • McChesney followed suit in the 100 Free by setting a new Maggs Pool record with a 52.32.
  • Kidchob set his second pool record in the 100 Back, completing his race in 58.11 seconds.
  • Similarly, the 100 Breast represented VanDeVeen's second record breaking performance as he won in 1:05.22.
  • In the 400 Free, Formon finished first by clocking a time of 4:10.97.
  • Ryan Higgins broke a Maggs pool record of his own in the 100 IM, taking first in 1:00.64.
  • Closing out the meet, TCNJ's 200 Free Relay squad of McChesney, Kahler, Milo Whitley and Kidchob dominated the field with a time of 1:35.05, faster than second place by nearly three seconds. Unsurprisingly, the time also broke the previous pool record.
TOP PERFORMERS
  • Kidchob finished the meet with a total of four event wins (two individual and two relays)
  • McChesney, Kahler and VanDeVeen each were part of three event victories
  • Formon won a pair of individual races
