Men's T&F Claims 2nd at NJAC Championships

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The TCNJ men's indoor track and field team finished in second place at the NJAC Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Monday night. The Lions put up 169.5 team points, only behind the profs of Rowan who posted 223.5 team points.
 
The men's team was highlighted once again by Zachary Mackiewicz, who claimed first in the weight throw and second place in the shot put with throws of 16.96 and 14.79 meters respectively. Senior Warlys Lizardo placed just behind Mackiewicz in the weight throw, reaching a mark of 15.95 meters.
 
Senior Kevin Christensen narrowly took first place in the mile, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:14.52.
 
The Lions ran well as a pack in the 800-meter run, taking three out of the top four spots in the event. Sean Burtnett seized the first-place crown with a time of 1:56.11. Just barely trailing him were Thomas Blach and Roman Rychkov, who crossed the finish line with times of 1:56.29 and 1:56.41, respective;y.
 
Blach was also a member of the 4000-meter distance medley relay team that took first place for the Lions on Monday. He was joined by Kevin Matthews, Jeff Heineman and Matt Granizo on their way to a time of 1:42.05. The next best team finished a whole eight seconds after TCNJ.
 
Tom Domozych, Tyler Scott, Justin Gomez and Raymond Schmitt put together a second-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:29.29.
 
Andrew Lodge claimed third in the 400-meter dash, completing the race less than one second behind the first-place runner with a time of 49 seconds flat.
 
Lodge, Burtnett, Rychkov and Jason Engler were narrowly bested by Rowan and Ramapo in the 4x400-meter relay, trailing the winner Rowan by two seconds after crossing the finish line at 3:22.52.
 
Domozych was just .02 seconds away from second place in the 60-meter dash, taking third with a time of 6.94 seconds.
 
Junior Chase Miller had a third-place finish in the 5000-meter run, trailing the first-place runner by just four seconds with a time of 5:16.54.
 
Another third-place finisher for TCNJ was Michael Bond in the 3000-meter run, who completed his race in 8:45.71.
 
Freshman Jayvee Dumas was the third-best pole vaulter in the NJAC on Monday night, managing to clear the bar of 4.40 meters to crack the program's all-time top-10 with a regional qualifier.
 
TCNJ track and field will be sending athletes to multiple places again this weekend as there is the Fastrack Last Chance meet back at Ocean Breeze on Friday as well as the B.U. Last Chance Meet in Boston on Sunday.
