COLLEGEVILLE, PA.- The TCNJ track and field team had the majority of their team at the Frank Colden Invitational, Saturday at Ursinus. Both the men's and women's teams earned fourth-place finishes in a field of 24 teams with team scores of 61 and 51.5 points respectively. For both teams, there were some eye-opening performances that should be looked into further.
Zachary Mackiewicz highlighted the Lions on the men's side, breaking the school record in the weight throw. His mark of 17.36 meters destroys his previous best of 16.67 meters which he did earlier this season at the Joe Handelman Invitational. Along with this, Mackiewicz had a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.83 meters.
Eliza Bruncaj had a monster showing in her pentathlon debut, taking first in four out of the five events. In the process of this, she also ran a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:30.75. Her total score of 3191 marks the second best in school history and 13
th in the nation this season.
Vincent Rizzi earned a first-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.49 meters. This mark was just .12 meters shy of his personal best.
Jessica Reilly has kept the great throws coming with another personal best in the weight throw. Her distance of 14.87 meters was enough for second place in the event.
Matt Richardson had an impressive 5000-meter run of his own, taking second in the event with a new personal best time of 15:28.27.
Picking up right where she left off in the fall,
Savannah Hodgens finished third in the 5000-meter run. Her time of 19:24 not only was a personal best but was also less than two seconds behind the second-place runner.
Freshma
Jayvee Dumas put together a third-place finish and personal best time in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line at 8.84 seconds. Dumas also finished third in the pole vault with a personal best mark of 4.25 meters.
It was another strong weekend for
Kerri McCarthy in the shot put as she earned herself a third-place finish on Saturday after her throw of 12.16 meters. Just behind her in the event was
Edith Gonzalez, who had a mark of 12.13 meters.
Finishing just behind Mackiewicz in the shot put was George Ajayi-Sam who only trailed him by .08 meters with a distance of 13.75 meters.
Kaylee Harnett put together a third-place finish of her own in the high jump when she cleared a height of 1.52 meters.
TCNJ Track is back at it again this weekend as they will send some members to Boston and some members to Alvernia for the Plex Shootout. That event will start at 9:30 AM in Reading, Pa.
