Track Opens Spring Season at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ. - The TCNJ track team opened their spring season at the Monmouth season opener this weekend. Across the board, there were some great performances worth noting.
 
Erin Buquicchio and Raymond Schmitt both did great in their 100-meter races, marking personal best times. Buquicchio finished her race in 12.72 seconds which is in the top-10 times for the NJAC this season. Schmitt took fourth out of all runners with a time of 10.95 seconds which is the second fastest time in the NJAC.
 
Schmitt also ran a PR in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.03 seconds. Finishing just behind him in both the 100 and 200 was Justin Gomez. Gomez ran personal bests of his own in both events with times of 10.96 and 22.32 seconds respectively.
 
Alexander Bogues had a big PR in the javelin and cracked the TCNJ top-10 all-time list after he threw to a distance of 54.26 meters.
 
Kelly O'Grady shined in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:23.29 and taking 10th overall.
 
Zachary Mackiewicz had an awesome day throwing the discuss, taking third in the event after a launch of 47.46 meters. This mark is currently the best in the NJAC.
 
Sameerah Khan picked up a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.53. Khan was also a part of the third-place 4x400-meter relay team alongside Buquicchio, O'Grady and Erin Hanlon that ran the race in 4:07.15.
 
Jayvee Dumas had a pair of PRs on the weekend with a 16.18 in the 100-meter hurdles as well as 4.35 meters in the pole vault. The 4.35 meters in the pole vault was enough to take fifth amongst the field.
 
It is a busy weekend ahead for the Lions as they will have athletes in Williamsburg, Virginia for the Colonial Relays as well as Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays. Both of these events begin on Thursday and will go on throughout the weekend.
