Five Lions Receive NJAC Weekly Awards

4/17/2023 1:52:00 PM

PITMAN, N.J.- Five TCNJ student-athletes were selected for NJAC weekly awards on Monday afternoon.

The honorees included a women's lacrosse defensive player of the week, a softball player of the week, a women's track athlete of the week, a women's lacrosse offensive player of the week and a men's tennis rookie of the week.

Eliza Bruncaj- Track Athlete of the Week
Bruncaj broke the nearly 40-year-old school record in the Heptathlon with a total score of 4533. She took first in four out of the eight events on her way to a first-place finish in the event. Her score is not only a school record, but also the best in the NJAC, the Metro Region and eighth best in the nation.

Julia Kinally- Softball Player of the Week
Against Rowan and William Paterson this past week, Kinnally hit 9-for-14 for a 0.634 batting average. With 3 doubles and a home run, the Lions shortstop held a 1.071 slugging % alongside a 1.714 OPS. She also racked up 5 RBIs while scoring 4 runs herself. This is the second consecutive player of the week award for the junior.

Anna Devlin- Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Devlin contributed to every facet of the game this past week. Her combined 13 draw controls propelled Anna to the #1 spot of the TCNJ Record Books, as she tallied not only 298 to break Libby Morrison's school record. Devlin's ability to hit the back of the cage, as well as assisting her teammates and record caused turnovers has been instrumental in both of the Lions' victories.

Wayden Ay- Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Ay helped lead the defensive unit this past week with two conference wins over Rowan and Kean. Her tenacious defense resulted in 6 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers that played huge roles in both wins.

Alberto Thomas- Men's Tennis East Rookie of the Week
Thomas swept his singles match at Rutgers-Camden last week 6-0, 6-0. In his double's matchup with teammate Brett Schuster, the pairing did not lose a single game as they won 8-0.
