MAHWAH, N.J. – The TCNJ men's track and field team placed second in the 2023 NJAC Outdoor Championships after scoring 160 points throughout the two-day Championship weekend.
The Lions saw two first-place finishers on the track and one in throws to highlight the final day of the meet. In total, the blue and gold had five event winners in what is the program's third consecutive runner up finish in the Outdoor Conference Championship meet.
Fresh off his victory in the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday,
Kevin Christensen took home the 1500m crown for the Lions with a time of 3:56.96. The senior beat out teammate
Michael Rodriguez, who took silver with a time of 3:57.67.
The Lions dominated the 800m by placing three runners in the top-five. The trio was headlined by freshman
Thomas Blach, who took the win after clocking a 1:54.71. Crossing the finish line right after him was senior
Sean Burtnett with a time of 1:55.22. Senior
Roman Rychkov rounded out the top five after recording a 1:56.13.
In Discuss throw, junior
Zachary Mackiewicz needed just one throw to clinch the NJAC Championship in the event, as his first throw of 48.28m (158-5) separated himself from the field. Mackiewicz would finish the day with his best toss of 48.79m (160-1) being recorded on his fifth attempt. Also placing in the top-five was sophomore
Brandon Kuse, who snuck in after hitting in a mark of 43.09m (141-4) on his fifth throw.
The Men's 4x100 relay team of Thomas Domozych,
Jason Engler,
Matthew Plumeri and Raymond Schmitt took bronze with a time of 42.49.
Senior
Jason Engler had a strong day in the sprints, as he earned a pair of fifth-place finishes in both the 110m Hurdles and the 400m dash Finals with times of 15.30 and 49.46, respectively.
In the 100m dash finals, senior Thomas Domozych narrowly missed out on bronze as he finished fourth with a time 10.744, which clocked just 0.002 of a second behind Rowan's Evan Corcoran.
Junior
Benjamin Fanta took third in the 5000m with his time of 15:23.88.
Closing out the day on the track, the 4x400 team of Rychkov, Burtnett, Jeff Heinman and Engler placed fourth with a time of 3:22.38.
In shot put, freshman
Jayden Wright shot past Montclair State's Na'im Kinsey to take second place after launching a throw of 15.00m (49-2.5) on his final attempt. Finishing in fourth was sophomore
George Agyei-Sam with his best throw of 14.06m (46-1.5).
Next up, the Lions will compete at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on May 15 before quickly shifting into the AARTFC Championships on May 17-18.
