BLOOMSBURG, PA. – The No. 13 TCNJ men's swimming and diving team kicked off the new year with a dominant tri-meet performance that was highlighted by a lopsided 182-80 victory against host school and Division II Bloomsburg on Saturday. The blue and gold also defeated Franklin & Marshall by a notable 202-60 final score.
The Lions (5-0) nearly secured a sweep of the meet after securing top-place finishers in 13 of the 14 events competed in the pool. Superstar
James McChesney secured a hat trick for individual event victories, while the trio of
Gavin Formon,
Ryan Higgins and
Ryan VanDeVeen each won a pair of events.
GOLDEN FINISHERS
- Starting the meet with the 200 medley relay, TCNJ took first as the relay team of Andrew Kidchob, VanDeVeen, Richard Park, and Dixon Kahler combined for a time of 1:33.31.
- In the 1000 free, Formon dominated the field with his top time of 9:46.02, which beat out second place by nearly 20 seconds. The sophomore wrapped up his strong day in the distance free by winning the 500 free with a time of 4:47.63.
- McChesney began his hat trick in the 200 free, touching first by over a second with his time of 1:44.50, before the senior outpaced the field in the 100 free after clocking the fastest time of 46.87. The All-American rounded out his individual dominance by securing first place with his time of 51.32 in the 100 fly.
- The breast events both went to VanDeVeen, as the junior first won the 100 breast with time of 58.41, before taking care of business by touching first in 2:08.91 for the 200 breast.
- In the 100 back, Kidchob secured his own individual win with his time of 51.97.
- Kahler took first place in the 50 free by outsprinting the field with his time of 21.85 seconds.
- Higgins finished his day with a pair of top times in the 200 back and 200 IM, as the junior All-American won the former with a time of 1:56.06, and touched first in 1:57.15 to win the latter event.
- Rounding out the day, the TCNJ 400 free relay edged out Bloomsburg with a top time of 3:10.16. The relay quartet consisted of Milo Whitley, Park, Kahler, and McChesney.

The Lions will head out to Baltimore on Tuesday for a nationally ranked tri-meet matchup against No. 3 NYU and No. 12 Johns Hopkins. The tri-meet is scheduled for a starting time of 1 PM.
