McChesney Leads No. 13 Men’s Swim in Nationally Ranked Tri-meet vs No. 3 NYU/No. 12 Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD. – The No. 13 TCNJ men's swimming and diving team raced hard in a highly competitive, nationally ranked tri-meet against No. 3 NYU and host No. 12 Johns Hopkins on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions (5-2) were led by senior All-American James McChesney, who had a fast day in the pool by sweeping the sprint free events for yet another hat trick, and saw twelve total top-five finishing placements throughout the meet. The final scores of the meet saw the blue and gold fall 97-165 to NYU and 88-174 to Johns Hopkins.

TOP-FIVE FINISHERS
  • Kicking off the meet, TCNJ's 200 medley relay team placed third as the quartet of Andrew Kidchob, Ryan VanDeVeen, Richard Park and Dixon Kahler recorded a combined time of 1:34.43.
  • McChesney began his afternoon dominance in the sprint free with a fast swim in the 200 yard, taking the win by nearly two seconds with his time of 1:41.34. The senior followed up with a 21.10 time in the 50 free, outpacing the field for his second first place finish, before immediately notching his third win on the day in the 100 free by touching first in 46.12 to secure the hat trick.
  • Sophomore Gavin Formon picked a pair of notable times in the distance free. In the 1000 yard, Formon placed third with his time of 9:47.89. The All-American followed up by touching in fourth place for the 500 free after clocking in at 4:47.45.
  • Two Lions placed in the top-five for the 100 back, with Kidchob touching in fourth at 52.06, before teammate Ryan Higgins coming in right behind him with the fifth fastest time of exactly 53 seconds. Higgins would also place second in the 200 back after clocking a time of 1:53.28.
  • In the 100 breast, Ryan VanDeVeen finished second with a time of 57.57. The junior followed up with a fourth place finish in the 200 breast, touching in at 2:06.74 to conclude a strong day in the pool.
  • The final event of the meet saw the Lions' 400 free relay team place second with a time of 3:07.18. The relay quartet consisted of Park, Lukas Blach, Kahler and anchored by McChesney.
UP NEXT
The Lions return to the pool on Friday by hosting No. 25 Rowan at the TCNJ Aquatic Center starting at 2 PM. The matchup will represent day one of the dual meet, with the meet finale taking place on Saturday at Glassboro starting at 2 PM.
