EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's swimming and diving team closed out the calendar year by hosting a pair of top-11 opponents. No. 4 NYU outscored TCNJ, 180.50-113.50, while No. 11 Johns Hopkins held a 161-132 edge on Saturday.
Ryan VanDeVeen finished first in the 100 breast for TCNJ's best event of the day with a third-place finish by
Tyler McGeehan in the same event. VanDeVeen also had a pair of third-place finishes, one in the 200 breast and the other as a part of the 400 medley relay.
Ryan Higgins joined VanDeVeen with a pair of top-three individual finishes after taking second in the 200 back and third in the 100 back.
Joe McChesney and
M.J. Hoban were both part of a pair of third-place relay finishes to start and close the day.
TOP-THREE FINISHERS
- The Lions began the weekend with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:21.29) behind the quartet of Andrew Kidchob, VanDeVeen, McChesney and Hoban
- TCNJ took two of the top-three spots in the 100 breast with Van DeVeen finishing first (55.68) and McGeehan finishing third (56.03)
- Gavin Formon finished third in the 1000 free (9:30.00)
- Higgins finished second in the 200 back (1:48.99) and hit a NCAA B cut, while also finishing third in the 100 back (50.65)
- VanDeVeen finished third in the 200 breast (2:01.91)
- TCNJ took third in the last event, the 200 free relay (1:24.29), behind McChesney, Milo Whitley, Bradley Frank and Hoban
ON THE BOARD
- Ethan Weiss scored a pair of wins in the 3-meter 11 dives (349.30 points) and 1-meter 11 dives (358.20 points)
- Michael Wu had a pair of runner-up finishes with a 349.30 score in the 3-meter 11 dives and a 273.45 score in the 1-meter 11 dives
- Kai Zola took third in the 1 -meter 11 dives (208.20) and Wyatt Marble also finished third (207.30) but in the 3-meter 11 dives
