NEW YORK CITY – Eliza Bruncaj posted two of four runner-up finishes for the TCNJ women's track and field team in a solid debut at the indoor season opener at The Armory on Saturday night.
ON THE TRACK
The Lions put up a strong showing in the 60-meter hurdles, sending Bruncaj,
Mackenzie Burke, and
Sarah Scepkowski to the finals. Bruncaj was runner-up at 9.14 seconds, with Burke in fourth (9.42) and Scepkowski ninth (9.73).
Bruncaj also took second in the 300-meter dash, crossing the line in 40.85 seconds. That time ranks second in program history, behind only Samantha Gorman's 40.00 in 2019.
Rukky Daranijo was sixth in the 300 in 42.03, just ahead of
Kelsey Thomas' 42.19 in ninth.
Kelly O'Grady was second in the 600 meters, finishing in 1:38.78;
Erin Hanlon (1:44.70) and
Olivia Class (1:45.20) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Brenna Omert broke a minute in the 400-meter dash, placing fourth in 59.94.
Burke also placed seventh with an 8.03 in the 60-meter dash, just five-hundredths of a second off her personal best.
To cap the night Bruncaj, Daranijo, O'Grady, and Burke finished fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:05.50.
IN THE FIELD
Lia Malave netted a new PR in the long jump, clearing 17-8.75 to claim second place.
Allison Lavin finished third in the shot put (35-5.25) and fifth in the weight throw (40-6.00) with a huge personal best by well over six feet.
Scepkowski was third in the high jump with a mark of 5-00.25, while
Abigail Pfaff and rookie Petra Doherty tied for fifth at 4-10.25.
Maya Scannell equaled her career best in the pole vault, landing in third place after clearing 9 feet, 10 inches.
Isabella Mraz also matched her previous personal best at 8 feet, 10.25 inches.
Brooke Valan, a transfer from Stockton, jumped 34-9.00 to finish fourth in the triple jump in her TCNJ debut.
