3/23/2024 10:43:00 PM

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time since 2016, the TCNJ men's swimming and diving team secured a top ten finish at the NCAA Championship meet. The Lions had All-American finishers in all five events on Championship Saturday to propel themselves up to tenth place with 158 total points, which beat out 11th-place Wash U (MO) by three.

TCNJ's four-day championship appearance was highlighted by yet another James McChesney individual Championship in the 200 Freestyle, as well as two national runner-up finishes in the 400 IM and 100 Free from Ryan Higgins and McChesney.

For the second consecutive season, the Lions had all ten NCAA qualifiers secure All-American honors in the pool. The blue and gold had eight individual All-American performances to go alongside three different All-American relays. The program was also well-represented on the podium, with top-eight finishers in six individual events and in a pair of relays.

ALL AMERICAN FINISHERS
  • Competing in the fast heat of the 1650 free, sophomore Gavin Formon placed 13th in the timed finals with a time of 15:44.92, becoming an All-American miler for the second time in his career.
  • The 100 free finals saw McChesney nearly bring his third individual national title back home to Ewing, as the senior was just edged out at the finish by one-tenth of a second. Nevertheless, the NCAA Champion posted a new program-best time of 43.36 for second place on the podium.
  • Ryan Higgins added a top five finish of his own in the 200 back finals, with the junior placing fifth with a time of exactly 1:46.00 on the clock.
  • In the 200 breast, Ryan VanDeVeen delivered the final podium finish of the weekend for the Lions after clocking in at 1:59.78 for seventh place.
  • In the final race of the meet, TCNJ's 400 free relay team of McChesney, Lukas Blach, Brian Bull and Higgins closed out in 15th place after recording a relay time of 3:00.76. Alongside those four, the duo of Richard Park and Milo Whitley also were awarded All-American honors for being part of the finals-qualifying relay team in the morning prelims.
