EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's swimming team continued its historic run of success both in the pool and in the classroom with a record-tying nine individuals named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team.
Brian Bull,
Gavin Formon,
Dixon Kahler,
Andrew Kidchob,
James McChesney, and
Ryan VanDeVeen were all named to the first team, while
Shawn Kushner joined divers
Ethan Weiss and
Michael Wu in earning second-team honors.
The nine individual Scholar All-Americans matches the program high established last year by the Lions, who took 10
th at the NCAA Championships in March for the highest team finish at nationals since 2016.
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet.
An Accounting major, Bull was part of the All-American 400 free relay and 800 free relay units at the NCAA Championships.
An Economics major, Formon placed 10
th in the 400 IM and 13
th in the 1650 free and was a member of the 800 free relay squad at nationals.
Both Accounting majors, Kahler and Kidchob were each on the 8
th-place 200 medley relay squad.
An Accounting major, McChesney wrapped up his incredible career as an 18-time All-American after securing six more such honors at nationals, where he repeated as NCAA champion in the 200 free while placing second in the 100 free and fourth in the 50 free.
This season he also led TCNJ to the first-ever NJAC Championship meet title. He swept the sprint freestyle events at the conference meet, collecting gold medals in the 50, 100, and 200 free. He was also part of four gold-medal-winning relays, including the 200 and 400 medley relays and 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
A Management major, VanDeVeen was on the 200 medley relay team and also finished seventh in the 200 breast.
A Computer Engineering major, Kushner posted a lifetime best in the 200 breast at the NJAC Championship, good for a "B" cut and a third-place finish; he was also seventh in the 200 IM and 10
th in the 100 breast.
A Computer Science major, Weiss is a two-time NJAC Diver of the Year and two-time NCAA Regional qualifier.
A Chemistry major, Wu qualified for NCAA regionals this spring.
