PITMAN, N.J. – Five TCNJ student-athletes were recognized among the winners of the first set of weekly awards from the New Jersey Athletic Conference office.
The field hockey team posted a pair of recipients as
Jadyn Huff was named Offensive Player of the Week and
Claire Engebreth collected Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Ava Curtis was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week for women's soccer, and
Ava Biemuller and
Moksh Patwari earned Rookie of the Week honors in women's and men's cross country, respectively.
FIELD HOCKEY
Huff scored the first three goals of her career in Sunday's 5-0 season-opening rout at Catholic. The sophomore fired off eight shots (six on cage) to spearhead a Lions attack that outshot the Cardinals, 23-2. Huff scored the game's first goal in the second quarter and added two more on either side of the halftime break.
Engebreth scored a goal and dished out a career-high three assists - all to Huff - on Sunday. The senior played a key role on both offensive and defensive corners and helped TCNJ limit Catholic to just one shot on cage.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Curtis scored in both TCNJ wins at William Smith's Stand on Their Shoulders Invitational last weekend. Her 30-yard free kick in the 8th minute proved to be the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Washington and Lee on Friday, and the senior netted another free-kick goal in Saturday's 5-1 rout of Plattsburgh State. Curtis, who played all 90 minutes against W&L, upped her career goal tally to nine.
CROSS COUNTRY
Biemuller finished runner-up at the Blue/Gold Invitational on Friday to lead the Lions in her collegiate debut. She crossed the line in 12:23.2 for the 3.2K course, heading up a parade of teammates who all finished between 2nd and 16th overall in a 4-team field for the season opener.
Patwari won the men's 5K in his collegiate debut on Friday, crossing the line in 16:33.5 to pace a pack of eight Lions who all finished within one second of each other. TCNJ had the first 19 individual finishers in a 4-team field for the season opener.
