EWING, N.J. – Gavin Formon,
M.J. Hoban, and
Andrew Kidchob each won a pair of individual events as the No. 12 TCNJ men's swimming team rolled to a 202-56 victory over Franklin & Marshall in an unconventional dual meet on Friday afternoon.
The teams competed in a litany of unusual events, including four 50-yard 'skins' races in which an 8-man field was pared down to four and then to two swimmers.
Andrew Walter,
Ryan VanDeVeen,
Ryan Higgins, and
Shawn Kushner started the meet with a victory in the 600 medley relay, narrowly edging teammates
Andrew Kidchob,
Dylan Negron,
Brian Bull, and
Milo Whitley with a time of 5:35.21.
Formon ran away with the 1000 free, joining
Dylan DeWitt and
Noah Serrano in the top-3 before leaving the field behind with a final mark of 9:59.94.
Tyler McGeehan worked his way through the 50 breast skins in dominant fashion, posting the top time in all three heats en route to taking down F&M's Patrick Rooney by nearly a full second with a time of 27.11 in the final. Negron and Kushner joined McGeehan in the last four of the competition, with Kushner (27.74) landing just over a tenth of a second behind Rooney in the 'semifinals.'
Hoban edged out the Diplomats' John Devaney in the 100 free, touching the wall in 48.92 seconds;
Bradley Frank took third in 49.28.
Formon turned on the jets in the closing freestyle leg of the 300 IM, overtaking teammate
Patrick Adams on the last lap to grab a victory with a time of 3:05.41. Adams (3:06.70) and
Pablo Salazar (3:08.01) made it a sweep of the top three spots for the Lions.
Kidchob and
Jonah Stein advanced to the finals of the 50 yard butterfly skins, with Kidchob notching a winning time of 23.28.
VanDeVeen rolled to victory with a clocking of 57.96 in the 100 breast, more than two seconds clear of runner-up Stein (1:00.12).
Keilan Moran (2:44.60) won the 300 freestyle by nearly three seconds, and
Joe McChesney captured top billing in the 100 fly at 53.30 seconds.
Hoban and Kidchob dueled in the 50-yard freestyle skins, advancing to the final heat with respective marks of 22.33 and 22.37. Hoban got the best of his teammate in the final, posting a time of 21.82 to win by over half a second.
In the 50 back skins, Kidchob downed teammate Higgins with a mark of 24.28 in the final.
Hoban joined Bull, Moran, and McGeehan to win the 400 free relay in 2:55.25, nearly five seconds clear of the runner-up unit from F&M.
