Rychkov, Schmitt Lead Men's T&F at Conference Challenge Cup

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The TCNJ men's track and field team won a pair of events and claimed multiple top three finishes en route to taking home fourth at the Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup Saturday afternoon.

ON THE TRACK
  • Rychkov posted the second fastest time in program history in Saturday's 400-meter race, crossing the line in 48.92 to finish third. The freshman's final time currently ranks first in the NJAC and the Metro Region and is tied for ninth in Division III.
  • Schmitt came out on top in the 60-meter sprint once again, besting Cortland's Matthew Schaffert by a tenth of a second to finish first with a final time of 6.88 seconds.
  • TCNJ's DMR team of Michael Rodriguez, Tyrese Gilbert, Kevin Matthews and Brandon Chen broke the meet record by over seven seconds, crossing the line in 10:26.37 to beat out SUNY Geneseo. The quartet's time currently leads the Metro Region and ranks third in Division III.
  • Elsewhere in Saturday's relays, Jack Attali combined with Noah Traverso, LeBron Rose and Rychkov to finish third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:20.30.
  • Attali also finished third in the 60-meter hurdles final with a time of 8.33, followed by Jayvee Dumas (7th / 8.76s).
  • Thomas Blach was the Lions' lone top-15 finisher in the 800, with the sophomore's time of 2:00.81 earning him 11th in a field of 36.
IN THE FIELD
  • Stephen Daramola and George Agyei-Sam both finished in the top-10 in the weight throw. Daramola secured a third-place finish with his throw of 16.34 meters while Agyei-Sam cleared 14.99 meters on his final attempt to take ninth.
  • TCNJ claimed three of the top five spots in the shot put. Jayden Wright finished second (15.24 meters), Christian Farhat came in third (14.75) and Daramola rounded out the top five (14.24).

  • TCNJ is back in action Friday, Jan. 31 to compete at the Scarlet Knight Open.
