Former longtime TCNJ men's and swimming and diving head coach Brian Bishop has been selected for induction into the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Division III Hall of Fame, Class of 2026.
Â
Bishop will be officially enshrined alongside 20 other legends of collegiate swimming and diving on May 3, 2026 at the CSCAA Annual Awards Celebration in Chicago.
Â
This recognition honors swimmers, divers, and coaches whose exceptional careers have made a lasting impact on Division III swimming and diving," said CSCAA Executive Director Samantha Barany. "We celebrate these inductees not only for their achievements in competition but for the meaningful contributions they've made to their programs, their communities, and the sport as a whole."
Â
Bishop spent 29 highly successful years at the helm of the men's swimming and diving program at TCNJ, guiding the Lions to 18 Metropolitan Conference titles, eight NJAC team titles, and a remarkable 23 top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships; that tally includes seven top-10 team finishes, three of which came in his last five seasons. Bishop racked up a dual meet record of 232-57 during his TCNJ tenure.
Â
Bishop coached two individual national champions (Matt Stoll in 1994 and Steve Swenson in 2006) as well as four relay national champions (200/400 free relay in 2014, 400/800 free relay in 2015). Under Bishop's watch, a total of 72 different student-athletes earned a whopping 271 All-America awards. Bishop also produced an Olympic swimmer in Davy Bisslik, who competed in the 100 fly in Athens, Greece in 2004.
Â
Bishop's charges also shined in the classroom. The Lions collected 10 CSCAA All-Academic Team honors during his career, with 21 individuals being named CSCAA All-Academic Athletes. Andrew Girman was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2000.
Â
Highly respected in the world of collegiate swimming, Bishop was selected as the Division III National Coach of the Year after the 2014-15 campaign, when the Lions placed sixth at the NCAA Championships to match their best finish in program history; TCNJ garnered 25 All-American citations and won a pair of relay national titles. He was also a 14-time MET Coach of the Year and 7-time NJAC Coach of the Year, and twice received the Roy Van Ness Award, given annually to a TCNJ coach for outstanding success and leadership.
Â
Bishop served as the coach for the Aruba national team in a 2004 World Cup meet in Stockholm, Sweden and also served as an advisor to the Aruba Olympic Committee. He was president of the MET Conference for six years. Bishop received a service award from AAHPERD in 1989 and one from the NJSIAA in 2001.
