Three Golds for Men's T&F in Runner-up Finish at NJAC Indoor Champs

PHILADELPHIA – Ray Schmitt, Steve Daramola, and Jayvee Dumas each won individual gold medals to lead the TCNJ men's track and field team to a runner-up finish at the NJAC Indoor Championship on Sunday.
 
The Lions finished with 175 team points, coming into second to Rowan (278) for the fifth consecutive season.
 
MEDAL WINNERS
  • Schmitt defended his title in the 60-meter dash in thrilling fashion, breaking the school record with a time of 6.78 seconds and edging teammate Maxim Rychkov by one-hundredth of a second; the times, both lower than Rychkov's previous program mark of 6.80, rank inside the top-10 in Division III
  • Daramola won his first career NJAC gold, throwing 16.46 meters in the weight throw; teammate George Agyei-Sam took bronze at 15.76 meters
  • Dumas picked up his second career conference gold medal in the heptathlon, pairing it with last year's decathlon crown at the outdoor championships. He finished with 4545 points, more than 500 clear of the runner-up from Rowan
  • Rychkov was also runner-up in the 200-meter dash, where his time of 21.49 seconds was second only to Rowan's Rajahn Dixon, who posted the 4th-best time in D3 at 21.34
  • Lucas Lattimer, last year's indoor Rookie of the Meet, was second in the 800 meters with a mark of 1:57.61
  • Michael Rodriguez led a 2-3-4 finish in the mile, crossing the finish line in a personal-best 4:13.39 ahead of Brandon Chen (4:16.14) and Kevin Matthews (4:19.51)
  • Matthew Granizo claimed bronze with a season-best time of 15:07.53 in the 5000 meters
  • The 4x400 meter relay unit of Noah Traverso, Anthony Senatore, Rychkov, and Tyrese Gilbert was second at 3:17.05
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES – TRACK
  • Thomas Blach was fourth (1:58.75) and David Keefe sixth (2:00.19) in the 800 meters
  • Senatore (50.14) and Gilbert (50.45) were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash
  • Chen (8:50.06), Rodriguez (8:51.94), and Anthony Guarino (8:58.00) finished 6-7-8 in the 3000 meters
  • Evan Melito was fifth in the 5000 meters (15:12.22), where Phil Pace was eighth (15:51.18)
  • Traverso placed eighth in the 200 (22.40)
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES – FIELD
  • Brandon Kuse was a place-winner in the weight throw, taking eighth with a mark of 14.23 meters
