No. 9 Men’s Swimming Sweeps Swarthmore

1/23/2026 7:45:00 PM

EWING, N.J. – Fresh off of their first top-ten ranking of the season, the No. 9 TCNJ men's swim team put in a dominant showing against Swarthmore.

The Lions took first place in every event against the Garnet. Joe McChesney headlined the strong performances with a lightning-fast 22.25 in the 50 butterfly. McChesney set a new program standard with that time, which is currently the fastest in the NJAC and 11th fastest in Division III.

McChesney also made noise in the 100 butterfly, where he improved upon his D3 B-cut time that he posted earlier this year. McChesney logged a 48.21 against the Garnet, shaving five hundredths of a second off of his previous time.

The meet began with TCNJ's A and B relays finishing first and second in the 200 medley relay. In the next event, Gavin Formon (9:38.80) and Will Heinze (9:48.36) went first and second for the Lions again in the 1000 freestyle. Gabe Beverini (1:40.86) and Derin Ozbas (1:44.31) then took first and third in the 200 freestyle, followed up by Andrew Kidchob (22.71) and Gavin Patrick (24.50) in first and third in the 50 backstroke.

TCNJ went back to claiming the first two spots in the next three events, thanks to Tyler McGeehan (25.88) and Dylan Negron (26.51) in the 50 breaststroke, and McChesney (48.21) and Pablo Salazar (51.06) in the 100 butterfly.

M.J. Hoban won the 50 freestyle (20.75), which was just one of two events in which TCNJ did not take two out of the top three spots; he also triumphed in the 100 free (46.13). Kidchob (49.38) then picked up another win in the 100 backstroke. The Lions then took the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke, with McGeehan winning the event (55.92). Formon then picked up another win in the 500 free (4:41.34), and Gabe Beverini (1:53.90) rounded out the individual events of the evening with a win in the 200 IM. The final event ended in a win for the Lions' A relay in the 200 freestyle relay.

The Lions now prepare for their senior-day showdown against Montclair State tomorrow, January 24.
