Lion Trio Garners Weekly NJAC Awards

2/9/2026 1:33:00 PM

PITMAN, N.J. –  A trio of TCNJ student-athletes earned NJAC weekly honors, as announced by the conference this afternoon.

Men's basketball's Nick Koch and Matthew Solomon posted a pair of strong outings en route to being tabbed the NJAC's Player and Defensive Player of the Week respectively, while women's track & field's Lucia Garcia-Beltran continued her recent run of dominance to yet another Track Athlete of the Week selection.

Koch led the charge with a pair of monster performances as the Lions completed season sweeps of the Rutgers schools last week. The senior scored 30-plus points in both games, starting with a 30-point effort alongside nine rebounds and six assists in a 79-68 victory over Camden on Wednesday night. On Saturday, Koch poured in a career-high 38 points, thanks in large part to an 18-of-18 effort at the free-throw line, and grabbed seven rebounds in a 75-63 win at Newark. In the process, he moved into 2nd on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,695 career points and counting.

Koch, who averaged 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game for the week, shot 51.2 percent from the field (21-for-41) and made all 25 of his free throws, extending his streak of made foul shots to 31.

Solomon extended a streak of his own by securing his fifth and sixth straight double-doubles with two more impressive efforts, starting with a terrific all-around performance in which he had 19 points and 12 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting in Wednesday's 79-68 win over Rutgers-Camden. In that game, Solomon took on the defensive assignment of Camden leading scorer Cameron Downs, limiting the Scarlet Raptors senior to just eight points – 13 below his season average – and one made field goal. Solomon then had 13 points, 12 rebounds, and a pair of steals while playing all 40 minutes of a 75-63 victory at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday.

Garcia-Beltran rounds out TCNJ's honorees, picking up her third weekly conference award of the year after resetting program records three times at the ECAC/IC4A Championships over the weekend. The senior began by taking down a 22-year-old NJAC record in the 60m, clocking a 7.48 – a mark that ranks as the fastest this year and the fifth-fastest all-time in Division III. Garcia-Beltran claimed a second program record later, doing so in the 200m. She posted a 24.37 in the prelims and lowered that mark further in the finals to 24.30 – currently the 4th-fastest mark in DIII.
