TCNJ hands Dickinson and Cortland State losses as Lions remain perfect

Mike Oliver picked up a win as TCNJ downed Cortland State.
Chandler, AZ – The College of New Jersey's baseball team picked up their two wins on Monday as they beat Dickinson College 11-5 and then beat third ranked SUNY Cortland, 8-3. TCNJ is now 5-0 on the season and will be off on Tuesday before returning to action on Wednesday to face SUNY Cortland again in Arizona in a 1:30 p.m. (PST) match-up.

TCNJ's right handed sophomore pitcher Sean Stewart (Howell, NJ/Freehold Township) picked up the win on the mound for the Lions as worked five innings and allowed only four runs off seven hits, while strikeout three. Now 1-0, Stewart got additional support from junior relief pitcher Pat Johnson (Hamilton, NJ/Steintert) who earned the save after four innings of work with just one earned run off four hits and three strikeouts of his own.

Offensive support as both juniors Jeff Toth (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville) and Vince Mazzaccaro (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) drove in two runs, while senior Dave Mebs (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Adam Tussey (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester) each had two hits and an RBI in the first contest. Tussey added a double for the Lions, while senior Tyler Hall (Stockton, NJ/Immaculata) added a triple.

Game # 2 TCNJ 8-3 SUNY Cortland

TCNJ's senior catcher Rich Gawlak (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) had a banner game as he was 4-5 with two RBI's and added a double. Tussey was 2-6 with a pair of RBI's as well for the Lions. Mebs added an RBI and was 3-5 at the plate.

TCNJ's senior pitcher Mike Oliver (Crosswicks, NJ/Hamilton West) worked seven innings and had a no-hitter until the fourth inning. He fanned three while walking six and picked up the win for the Lions to improve to 14-2 on his career and now has 107 career strikeouts. Sophomore Eric Gertie (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) picked up his second save of the year after the Lions out of the jam in the seventh with three strikeouts and an earned run off two hits.
