Meet results

New York, NY… The College of New Jersey men's swimming team squared off against a New York University team that was determined to avenge their only season loss last year. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, they'll have twice as much incentive next year.

The Lions (6-1) depth proved to be too much for NYU as they swam to a 179-101 victory. They wasted no time in taking control of the meet winning the opening 200-yard medley relay before reeling off five straight individual first-place finishes. In those five events, TCNJ swept the first three and took first and second in the two that followed.

Senior James Vanbiervliet (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) won a pair of individual backstroke events and swam the back in the medley relay winner. He finished first in the 100-yard back in 54.12 as well as the 200-yard back in 2:01.80.

Junior Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) also had a big day winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.09), the 1000-yard freestyle (10:07.92) and the 100-yard fly (52.52). Senior Myles O'Connor (Santa Monica, CA) all won three events. He won the individual 100-yard breaststroke in 58.69, the 200-yard breast (2:12.16) and contributed to the 200-medley relay, which posted a winning time of 1:40.04.

Sophomore Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Immaculata) won the 200-free in 1:44.25, touched the wall first in the 500-free in 4:56.19, and led the 200-yard free relay to a 1:27.82 winning time.

In the diving competition, sophomore T.J. Burns (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) placed second in the 3-meter event with a score of 268.57 and second in the 1-meter posting 251.03. Freshman Billy Cavallo (Vineland, NJ/Cumberland) finished third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 222.30.

The men's swim team is back in action tomorrow against New Jersey Athletic Conference foe William Paterson University at 1 p.m.
