Lions tame Diplomats 156-98

Lancaster, PA … The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team remained unbeaten as they downed Franklin and Marshall College 156-98.

Senior Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), junior Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine Prep), and sophomore Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) led the squad with multiple wins giving the Lions (4-0, 2-0 NJAC) their fourth win in as many meets.

TCNJ also learned earlier in the week that they're squad is ranked 11th amongst Division III teams in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll.

Kircher won the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 10:12.63 and returned to win the 100-free in 48.44. The senior also swam a leg along with senior Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), freshman Stephen Gibson (Sewell, NJ/Saint Augustine Prep) and Schneider in the 200-yard free relay. The team posted a winning time of 1:27.54.

Clark won the 200-free (1:47.00) and 200-yard individual medley touching the wall in 2:02.34. The Lions racked up 16 points in the 200-free events as senior Pete Goldsmith (Easton, PA/Easton Area) placed second (1:48.76) and sophomore Mike Caputo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) took third (1:49.34). Caputo also earned top honors in the 500-yard free winning that race in 4:54.85.

Schneider won a pair of sprint races taking the 50-free in 21.78 and the 50 fly in 23.19. Medvecky was part of a pair of relay wins in addition to placing first in the 100-butterfly posting a first-place time of 52.21.

Freshman Pat Durning (Freehold, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) also joined the first-place finishers winning the 50-yard backstroke in 26.32, while rookie Mike Oliva (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) won the 50-breaststroke (28.62) as well as contributing to the 200-yard medley relay win.

The Lions dive back into competition this Friday at the Rutgers Frank Elms Super Splash held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. It's a three-day meet that will include mostly Division I competition.
