Depth leads Lion swimmers to third straight win

New Haven, CT ... The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team cruised to another dominant performance flushing out host Southern Connecticut State University 168-118. It is the third straight with for the Lions (3-0, 2-0 NJAC) as they've raced off the blocks in excellent form early in the 2010-2011 season.

TCNJ's depth in talent proved to be too much for SCSU as they piled up points one through five in every event. Senior Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) continues to lead by example winning the 200 and 100-yard butterfly events. The Lions record-holder posted 1:55.75 in the 200-fly and 53.01 in the 100.

Senior Joseph Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) is off to a very strong start this season, winning a pair of individual events in Southern Connecticut waters. He took first in the 100 back in 54.92 and also won the 200 back finishing in 1:58.64. Tseng also took second in the 200-yard individual medley posting a time of 2:01.03.

Freshman Stephen Tarnowski (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein Americana) has yet to cool off thus far winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.63. Tarnowski also earned points in the 200 fly and 200 back with third-place finishes.

Sophomore Michael Caputo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) won the 1000-yard freestyle event in 10:10.02, while teammate Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine) tapped the wall first in the 50-free (21.79). He also took second in the 100 free posting 48.37.

Junior Evan Paulan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) had a pair of second place finishes and senior Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) had a second and third place finish in individual events. 

On the boards, junior T.J. Burns (Clarks Summitt, Pa/Abington Heights) posted NCAA qualifying scores in the 1 and 3-meter diving events. He won each with scores of 300.63 and 293.41.

TCNJ remains on the road traveling to Lancaster, Pa. to compete at Franklin and Marshall College next Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m.
