Glassboro, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team clinched its third straight New Jersey Athletic Conference title defeating Rowan University 179-110.
It was a winner-take-all showdown in the Glassboro, NJ and the 11th-ranked Lions (7-2, 4-0 NJAC) responded with a dominant performance. Ten different TCNJ swimmers won individual events and junior
TJ Burns (Summits, PA/Abington Heights) swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events to guide the Lions to a perfect conference record.
Five seniors led the way as
Pete Goldsmith (Easton, PA/Easton Area),
Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/ Toms River North),
Tim Rauch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), and
Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), and
Joe Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) will all enter senior day tomorrow with a first-place finish under their belts this weekend.
Goldsmith won the 1000-yard freestyle event in 10:03.20, while Kircher took first in the 200-free posting a winning time of 1:44.04. Rauch captured the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:03.41 and Medvecky added to his stockpile of blue ribbons with a victory in the 100-yard fly finishing in 52.28. Tseng touched the wall first in the final individual registering a time of 2:03.53 in the 200-IM.
Burns posted scores of 333.53 in the 3-meter and 325.50 in the 1-meter. He is fresh off his fifth NJAC Diver of the Week honor this season.
Sophomore
Mike Caputo (Staten Island, NY, Curtis) won the 500-yard free in 4:47.15 and junior
Evan Paulan continued his winning ways claiming the 100-breaststroke in 1:00.36.
The Lions take on 9th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology tomorrow at 2 p.m. TCNJ's Aquatic Center.
