Senior Day insert
Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving swam past Stevens Institute of Technology 144-118 at TCNJ's Aquatic Center.
In a battle of ranked teams, the #11 Lions (8-2) turned back the #9 Ducks (3-1) as veterans
Joe Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) and
Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) led the charge on Senior Day. Tseng dominated the backstroke events winning the 100- (53.29) and 200-yard (1:55.78) events. He also took part in the 200-medley relay win (1:35.57) and placed second in the 200 IM finishing in 1:59.65.
Kircher copped a pair of individual freestyle events topping the field in the 100-free in 47.24 and 200-free in 1:42.57. He also joined classmate
Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), junior
Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine Prep), and freshman Phil Hawley (Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) to defeat Stevens in the 400-free relay posting a time of 3:08.37
Medvecky was also part of the 200-medley relay winning team and took first in the 100-yard butterfly posting 51.12. Sophomore
Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) garnered a first in the 200-medley as well as the 50-free (21.06). He also placed second behind Medvecky in the 100-fly with a time of 52.55.
Michael Oliva (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) was the fourth member of the 200-medley relay team.
Hawley placed second behind teammates twice finishing behind Kircher in the 100-free registering a time of 47.35 and just after Tseng in the 100-back finishing in 53.84.
Over the next three weeks, the Lions will train for the Metropolitan Conference Championships, which begin February 18 at Rutgers University. TCNJ has won the last four MET titles.
