Manhattan, NY ... In one of the most exciting finishes in recent memory, The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team edged New York University 151.5 to 142.5, as the teams entered the final relay event deadlocked in points.

The Lions (5-0) and Violets (2-4) each had 138.5 points headed into the 400-yard freestyle relay event. TCNJ took first and third place to register 13 points and win the meet, while NYU earned four points for a second-place finish. The team of senior Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine), sophomore Philip Hawley (Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley), junior Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), and senior Jesse Taylor (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley) won the most critical race of the year with a time of 3:10.83. The Violets finished close behind at 3:12.90.

The first event of the day proved instrumental to the Lions' victory, as they placed first and second in the 200-medley relay, giving them a 13-2 lead early in the meet. Freshman Aleksander Burzynksi (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's), sophomore Michael Oliva (Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Schneider, and Clark teamed up to post a winning time of 1:36.79. Hawley, sophomore William Kasper (Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), sophomore Stephen Tarnowski (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein American), and Taylor placed second with a time of 1:38.09.

Tarnowski would win three individual events on the day. He took top prize in the 100-breaststroke (1:01.29), 200-backstroke (1:57.18), and 200-individual medley (1:56.61).

Taylor raced to a first-place finish in the 200-freestyle, registering a winning time of 1:45.82. Burzinski won the 100-back event in 54.35, and Schneider bested the pack in the 50-free, finishing in 21.59. Junior Michael Caputo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) won the first individual event of the meet, claiming top honors in the 1000-free with a time of 10:01.14.

Senior T.J. Burns (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heitghts) earned eight crucial points in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Burns placed second in both with scores of 299.78 in the 1-meter and 319.05 in the 3-meter.
