Lions swim past Diplomats to remain unbeaten

Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team continues to dominate its opponents with a deep and balanced roster as they defeated Franklin and Marshall College 152-102 on Sunday in TCNJ's Aquatic Center.
  
It was the fourth win in eight days for the Lions, who are now a perfect 4-0 in dual meets this season. They boasted 11, first-place finishes from 10 different swimmers and also claimed both relay races.
 
Sophomore Matthew Peveler (Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Pascack Hills) set the tone early, winning the opening individual event with a time of 10:09.84 in the 1000-yard freestyle. Freshman Aleksander Burzynksi (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's) followed with top honors in the 50-yard backstroke, posting 24.52.
 
Burzynski joined junior Evan Paulan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), and senior Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine) to win the 400-medley relay with a finish of 3:34.56.
 
Sophomore Stephen Tarnowski (Ramstein Germany, Ramstein American) was the lone swimmer to win multiple individual events as he raced to first-place finishes in the 100-backstroke and 400-individual medley. His time of 55.05 in the back and 4:14.73 in the 400-IM were the fastest in the fields.
 
A pair of seniors combined with two rookies to win the 400-freestyle relay. Clark and senior Jesse Taylor (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley) raced with freshmen Matthew VanBiervliet (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Brian Perez (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) posted a finish of 3:14.72 in the event..
 
Sophomore Phillip Hawley (Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) took top prize in the 100-butterfly with a time of 56.18 and junior Michael Caputo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) outlasted the pack in the 500-free with a winning time of 4:51.80.
 
The Lions will compete next in the Princeton Invitational Meet this Friday and Saturday at Princeton University.
