Newark, DE – The College of New Jersey men's indoor track and field teamsventured south on Rte. 95 to the University of Delaware for the Thomson Invitational on Saturday and excelled as they finished in the top 10. The Lions finished sixth out of 22 institutions with 94 points.
The Lions claimed four of the eight scoring places in the 60 meters starting right at the top as senior
Christopher Medina (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) led the large field of 50 runners with a time of 7.06 seconds. Senior
Robert Jiggetts (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) was fourth crossing the finish line in 7.21 and he was followed by sophomore
Scott Lisa (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon) in seventh place and junior
Kyle Magliaro (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) in eighth as both runners had times of 7.27.
Lisa also accounted for a first-place finish in the high jump as he cleared 1.89 meters.
TCNJ also had four runners finish in the top-eight scoring places in the 200 as sophomore
Michael Spekhardt (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) was third (23.09),
Kevin Mulcahey (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) in seventh (23.49) and Jiggetts in eighth (23.49).
In the 4x400, the team of freshman
Erik Moutenot (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah), senior
Steven D'Aiutolo (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), junior
Alex Brown (Hillsborough, NJ/Montgomery), and Spekhardt combined for a time of 3:23.86.
Spekhardt added to his big day with a second-place effort in the 400 with a time of 52.08, while Brown was sixth in the 800 in 2:02.26.
The Lions had a number of runners place third in their respective events as Moutenot had a time of 1:07.65 in the 500 meters,
Andy Gallagher (Newfoundland, NJ/West Milford) finished the 3,000 in 9:13.89, and
Mark Sidebottom (Montville, NJ/Montville) completed the 5,000 in 15:58.21.
In the high jump,
James O'Connor (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) cleared 1.84 meters to place third, while
Julio Alorro (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) was fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.20 meters and
Colin Gold (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) was fifth at 4.05 meters.
Junior
Michael Berti (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) added the team's strong performance finishing eighth in the mile with a time of 4:33.91.
