Newark, DE – The College of New Jersey women's indoor track and field team headed south on Rte. 95 to the University of Delaware for the Thomson Invitational on Saturday and had a large number of athletes score points as they finished fourth out of 24 programs as they earned 119 points.
Competing in the Division II and III races, freshman
Katelyn Ary (Closter, NJ/NV Demerst) led the Lions in a strong performance in the 800 meters as she won the event with a time of 2:21.84. She was closely followed by senior
Katie Nestor Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) in second with a time of 2:22.70, while sophomore
Anginelle Alabanza (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was fourth in 2:25.14.
Ary and Nestor were also part of the winning 4x400 relay team along with freshmen
Katie Johnston (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and
Michelle Cascio (Washington, NJ/Westwood Regional). The quartet of Lion runners boasted a top time of 4:12.00.
Cascio added two more solid finishes as she was third in the 400 (1:02.64) and eighth in the 200 (27.78), while Johnston was third in the 500 (1:22.93).
TCNJ had one other first-place effort as
Cathy Goncalves (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) won the 5,000 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 8:12.84. Teammate
Megan Flynn (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) also met an ECAC standard as she was second in 8:15.82.
Sophomore
Erica Roberts (Newark, NJ/Science Park) placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.57 meters and on the track ran a swift time 8.36 seconds to finish fifth in the 60 meters.
Sophomore
Julie Jablonski (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) was second in the mile completing the race in 5:19.33, while junior
Brielle Doremus (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) was fifth in the 60-high hurdles (9.80) and
Alyssa Silver (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) finished in that spot in the 3,000 (11:34.83).
In the shot put junior
Mary Chismar (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) was third with a heave of 10.89 meters and teammate
Christine Ogbonna (East Hanover, NJ/East Hanover) was fifth with a throw of 10.75.
