New Haven, Conn. … The College of New Jersey men's swimming team took the blocks against its annual Division II opponent at Southern Connecticut State University and blew past the Owls for a convincing 172-99 win.
It was fourth straight victory for the Lions as they claimed seven first-place finishes in individual events and won both relay races. It also marked the 198

The foursome of sophomore
Aleksander Burzynski (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's), junior
Michael Oliva (Vineland, NJ/Vineland), senior
Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), and sophomore
Brian Perez (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) set the tone with a victory in the opening event as they sped to a winning time of 1:36.31 in the 200-medley relay.
Freshman
Joe Dunn (Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) had a big afternoon in Connecticut. He claimed top honors in the 100-free and 100-butterfly events. Dunn posted a winning time of 47.90 in the free and 53.15 in the fly. Schneider was the runner-up finisher in the 100-fly with a time of 53.31, followed by junior
Stephen Gibson (Sewell, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) who posted 54.62.
Schneider and Gibson went 1-2 in the 50-free event. Schneider clocked a winning time of 20.94 and Gibson touched the wall in 21.70.
The Lions also swept the top three spots in both the 200-free and 100-backstroke events. Junior
Stephen Tarnowski (Ramstein, Germnay/Ramstein American) took top honors in the 200-free in 1:47.12. He was followed by Perez (1:48.33), and sophomore
Matthew VanBiervliet (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), who finished in 1:48.51.

In the 100-back, junior
Patrick During (Freehold, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) posted the fastest time finishing in 54.7 seconds. Burzynski was runner-up in 54.8 and senior
Andrew Smith (Basking Ridge, NJ/Morristown-Beard) took third in 56.08.
NJAC Swimmer of the Week
Mike Caputo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) racked up another distance event win as he placed first in the 1000-free. He finished in 9:47.51.
TCNJ capped off the victory by winning the 400-free relay. Tarnowski, Schneider, Gibson, and Perez teamed up to win the race in 3:13.43.
The Lions now take an extended break in competition for the next five weeks. They return to action when they host West Chester and Johns Hopkins University in a tri-meet scheduled for Friday, January 12 and Saturday, January 13.
