Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's swimming team defeated Division II West Chester University 227.5-104.5, but dropped a 197-135 decision to third-ranked Johns Hopkins University following two days of competition.

The victory over the Golden Rams marked the fifth dual meet win of the season for the Lions (5-1), and 199th career coaching victory for Brian Bishop. Amidst his 24th season as head coach of TCNJ's swimming and diving program, Bishop needs just one more triumph to reach the 200-win milestone.

The Lions registered points in the opening event of the morning when sophomore Aleksander Burzynski (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's), freshman James Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park), freshman Joseph Dunn (Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and junior Philip Hawley (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) placed third in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:29.17

Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) and Hawley went one-two in the 50-free. Schneider went back and forth in just 21.06 and Hawley registered a finish of 21.47.

Gibson enjoyed a brisk race in the 100-free, finishing runner-up with a time of 47.40. Paulan and Dunn placed third and fourth in the 200-butterfly event, posting times of 1:58.21 and 1:58.89 respectively.

In the 200-backstroke, a trio of Lions' swimmers took the third, fourth, and fifth-place slots. Junior Stephen Tarnowski (Ramstein, Germany, Ramstein American) coasted to a 1:58.56 finish. Sophomore Matthew Vanbiervliet (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Burzynski posted times of 1:58.62 and 1:59.01.

Shangle and Tarnowski registered third and fourth place finishes in the 200-individual medley. Shangle clocked 1:56.43 and Tarnowski tapped the pad in 1:58.19.

In the final event, Schneider, junior William Kasper (Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Hawley and Gibson combined to place third in the 400-free relay with a time of 3:07.95.
