Meet resultsEwing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team earned a split in a pair of dual meet competitions against host West Chester University and Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday night.
The seventh-ranked Lions (3-2) registered a tremendous victory over the fifth-ranked Blue Jays. They outscored JHU 152-145 and took second to the Division II Golden Rams 192-123.
Sophomore
Jin Roh (Tenafly, NJ / Tenafly) enjoyed a big night, winning the 100- and 200-backstroke events. He posted a time of 52.45 in the 100 and 1:55.56 in the 200. Senior
Brett Pedersen (Sewell, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) also tallied major points in the sprint free events, placing first in the 50-freestyle (21.24) and second in the 100-free (46.52).
The 400-free relay squad took top honors. Pedersen was joined by junior
Joseph Dunn (Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), sophomore
Scott Vitabile (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) and sophomore
Ryan Gadjzisz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood). They completed the race in 3:04.59.
Dunn and Pedersen also contributed to a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay. Senior
Aleksander Burzynski (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's) started things off in the backstroke and junior
James Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) swam the breaststroke leg in the event. The Lions posted a finishing time of 1:33.44.
Shangle also placed second in the 100-breast in 58.25, while Vitabile registered a runner-up finish in the 200-free in 1:43.02.
The Lions return to dual meet action on Monday, January 19 when they host Stevens Institute of Technology at 1:00 p.m. in TCNJ's Aquatic Center. The Ducks are currently ranked 11
th in Division III men's swimming and diving.
