Hoboken, NJ …The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team stayed hot as they defeated 12
th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon in Hoboken, NJ.

The fifth-ranked Lions (5-2) bested a top-15 opponent for the second time in the last two weeks as they raced to a convincing 158.5 – 102.5 triumph.

Senior
James Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park), junior
Ryan Gajdzisz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), and classmate
Scott Vitabile (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) each posted a pair of wins in individual events. Vitable also contributed a first-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay.

Shangle and senior freestylist
Joseph Dunn (Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) established pool records at the meet. Shangle recorded a time of 2:07.84 to win the 200-breaststroke event. In the 50-free, Dunn went up and back in just 21.19, the fastest time ever registered at Stevens.

TCNJ got rolling in the 1000-free as Gajdzisz and sophomore
Logan Barnes (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) finished one-two in the distance race. Gajdzisz won the event in 9:57.79 with Barnes touching the wall next at 10:03.33.

The Lions flexed more muscle in the following event, sweeping the top three spots in the 200-free. Vitable, junior
Jason Ivins (Ewing, NJ/Notre), and sophomore
Phil Binaco (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) registered times of 1:44.75, 1:44.96, and 1:46.40 to garner 15 points. Vitabile and Ivins also finished first and second in 100-free with times of 47.30 and 47.65.

Freshman
Alex Skoog (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and senior
Dante Colucci (Summit, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) finished second and third in the 100-backstroke with times of 52.35 and 53.17. Shangle and sophomore
Chris O'Sullivan (Lebanon, NJ/Voorhees) posted first and third-place finishes in the 100-breaststroke. Shangle topped the field, clocking 56.67 while O'Sullivan completed the race in 1:01.34. O'Sullivan also placed second in the 200-breast. He posted a time of 2:15.75.

In the final event of the meet, Dunn, Ivins, Skoog, and Vitabile combined to win the 400-free relay in 3:09.75.

The Lions are right back in action this Saturday when they host New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Rowan University at 2 p.m. in the aquatic center.
