Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team put forth a dominant effort in defeating Montclair State University 189-102 in its New Jersey Athletic Conference opener at the TCNJ Aquatic Center on Friday night.

The Lions, 2-0 and ranked ninth nationally, claimed both relay events, won 10 individual races, and swept the diving as
David Adlai Gail (Princeton Jct. NJ/West Windsor-North) captured both the 1- and 3-meter events.

Senior
Scott Vitabile (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) had a huge night, winning three individual events and contributing to a top finish in the 400-freestyle relay. Vitabile won the 200-free (1:43.78), 100-free (47.32), and the 100-butterfly event (51.97). In the final race of the meet, he teamed up with freshman
Harrison Yi (Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly), junior
Adam Coppola (Kearny, NJ/High Tech), and senior
Andrew Nesbitt (Somerset, NJ/St. Joseph's) to post a winning time of 3:18.09.

Sophomore
Alex Skoog (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) showed his versatility by winning the 100-backstroke event (53.13), the 200 individual medley (2:07.66), and placing runner-up in the 500-free (4:54.49). The Lions swept that event as Yi took top honors in 4:45.43 and freshman
David Madigan (Lawrenceville, NJ/Notre Dame) placed third in 4:56.94. Skoog also contributed to top honors in the 200-medley relay, along with Coppola, Nesbitt, and Madigan. They captured the opening event of the meet with a winning time of 1:36.58.

The reigning NJAC Rookie of the Week, Yi won the 500, finished second behind Vitabile in the 200-free (1:43.93), and raced in the 400-free relay win. Nesbitt and
Chris O'Sullivan (Lebanon, NJ/Voorhees) finished one-two in the 100-breast with times of 58.83 and 1:01.36. Sophomore
Sam Maquet (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) touched the wall first in 200-fly in 2:00.82 and Coppola topped the field in the sprint free in 21.61.
Freshman
Andrew Ro (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Regional Demarest) can officially call himself a winner at the collegiate level as he placed first in the 200-breast in 2:15.02.
