NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In the first meet of 2019, The College of New Jersey men's swimming & diving team defeated Southern Connecticut State University on Friday afternoon by a final score of 169-124. With the win, the Lions improved to 3-1 on the season while the Owls dropped to 2-2 on the campaign.
Mathias Altman-Kurosaki won the 1650-free with a time of 16:55.80, while
Brett Clauhs swam to a third place finish as he timed in at 17:36.25.
Harrison Yi put forward a first place performance in the 200-free, as he posted a time of 1:45.76.
Griffin Morgan was right behind Yi as he swam to a time of 1:46.35 to lock up second place.
The Lions went one-two-three in the 100-back.
Alex Skoog won the race with a time of 52.25, while
Andrew Thompson took second place with a 52.74 time.
Derek Kneisel finished in third place with a time of 53.12.
Skoog additionally won the 50-free, as he topped the competition with a time of 21.71. Morgan was right behind in second place again with a time of 21.90. Skoog won his third event of the day when he captured the 100-free with a time of 46.94. Yi placed second with a time of 48.27.
Andrew Thompson won the 200-back with a time of 1:57.28, while Kneisel finished in second place with a mark of 1:58.38. Yi also took home the 500-free as he swam to a time of 4:49.43.
The Lions' 400-free relay team finished the meet strong, as the squad of Thompson, Morgan, Yi, and Skoog topped the field with a time of 3:13.05.
TCNJ will return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 26 when it will travel to New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Rowan University for an 11:00 a.m. meet.
