EWING, N.J. – This week's TCNJ student-athletes of the week are
Shannon Devitt of women's basketball and
Niall Carpenter of men's basketball.
Devitt continued to put up big numbers in three wins last week for the Lions. She averaged 14.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.6 steals in three wins for TCNJ. In the win over Rutgers-Newark, she scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and registered four steals. Devitt followed that up with a seven point, 14 rebound effort in the victory over Rutgers-Camden. She would conclude the week with a career-high 26 points in the victory over Ramapo on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, and 8-of-9 shooting from the free throw line.
Carpenter enjoyed an efficient week, as he averaged 17.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 steals in a 2-1 stretch for the Lions. Carpenter was especially deadly from beyond the three-point arc, shooting 15-of- 24 (62.5%) from deep. He began the week with a game-high 20 points in the defeat against Rutgers-Newark, and would follow that up with a 15 point effort in the victory over Rutgers-Camden, where he hit 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. In the Lions win over Ramapo, snapping the Roadrunners 23-game home winning streak, Carpenter scored 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting going 5-of-7 from long range. He also set a career-high with five steals in the contest.
