Dawn Kinghorn began her basketball career as a stand-out defensive player. However, over time she became an offensive threat. The four year starter became the first player in women's basketball to score 1,000 points, thus changing the history of women's basketball at the college. Only six other players have matched this record.Â
As captain during the 1982-1983 season, Kinghorn was instrumental in helping the Lions advance to the NCAA Division III Regional finals. This leader in steals and assists was named to the All-New Jersey State Conference Basketball Team three times and the State Basketball Team during the 1982-1983 season.Â
Kinghorn's leadership carried over to lacrosse as well. She was a four year starter and captained the team during the 1983-1984 season. In this season the Lions finished with a record of 12-1. This accomplishment earned her a spot on the BRINE All-Northeast Regional Team on defense. By the end of her athletic career, Kinghorn had earned eight varsity letters.Â
The success Kinghorn enjoyed on the court and field have carried over to other endeavors. She served as a varsity basketball coach at Hopewell Valley Central High School, NJ and Princeton Day School, NJ. Currently, she is a manager at United Parcel Service in Edison, NJ where she is responsible for supervisors basic training. Kinghorn stays active in the community through the United Way and community service projects with UPS. She also supports the college as a contributor to the annual fund, which generates money for scholarships.Â
