Fred Oshel was a distinguished member of the faculty and beloved member of the staff during his 38 years at the college. Oshel was the department head for three separate programs in addition to his time as head golf coach and co-head basketball coach.
With the golf program from 1975-2001, Oshel never suffered a losing season while qualifying for the NCAA Division III national championships on three occasions. Oshel coached four golfers to All-America honors. Oshel also spent 36 years as a faculty member in health, physical education and exercise science.
As co-head basketball coach with Terry Baker, Oshel helped guide the Lions to an 88-79 record during his seven years with the team between 1967 and 1974. Oshel and the Lions produced signature victories over Division I competition from Rider University, Wagner College, Quinnipiac College, and Monmouth College.
Oshel and the Lions culminated his basketball coaching career with a trip to the ECAC Regional Tournament in 1974. The Lions ran away with their opening round game defeating Lehman College 81-55. In the Regional Championship, the Lions faced conference rival Glassboro State. After splitting the regular season series that year, Trenton State captured the rubber match, defeating the Profs 84-75.
