When it comes to being part of national championship teams, Robin Selbst resides in a class of her own. She is the only player in the College’s history to win a national championship in three different team sports, and is also on record as the only person in NCAA Division III history to accomplish that feat.

As a player, Selbst won an NCAA title in her first season at Trenton State College with the 1991 field hockey team and that spring was part of another championship run as a member of the 1992 softball team. The titles continued as she led the Lions to another softball crown in 1994, and when her days on the diamond were over, she picked up a lacrosse stick as a fifth-year senior. In the spring of 1996, Selbst and the TSC lacrosse once again hoisted the championship trophy in the spring of 1996. (It was the final national championship won by a Trenton State College team before the school changed over to The College of New Jersey.)

Winning marked the epicenter of Selbst’ playing career. During her tenure, the teams she for went a combined 267-24-2 for a remarkable winning percentage of .906.
Her tenure at the College got off to a winning start as she was a member of the 1991 field hockey team that went unbeaten at 19-0-1.

As a sophomore, Selbst earned a spot in the starting line-up and never relinquished that spot the rest of her career. In 1992 she tied for the team lead with eight assists.  Her game continued to evolve as she led the Lions in scoring during her junior campaign with 10 goals and seven assists, while breaking out as a senior with career-highs in goals (16), assists (18), and points (50).

Her 18 assists that season still ranks second in program history and her 33 career assists are seventh on the all-time list.

On the softball diamond, Selbst was a versatile player earning All-America honors at different positions. In 1994, she was a first-team honoree as a utility player and the following year made the same team at second base. In her junior season, she batted over .400 for the first time and ranked among the team leaders with 56 hits and 34 runs batted in. Her final season proved to be her best as she hit an impressive .485, collecting 79 hits and 54 RBI. In addition, she was a near perfect 33-of-34 in stolen base attempts.

She finished with a career batting average of .410 finishing with 186 hits and 114 RBI.
With one season of athletic eligibility left, Selbst played lacrosse and appeared in 11 games during an undefeated season rounding out her banner career the same way it started, with a national championship.

The list of championships continued when Selbst moved into the coaching ranks being a part of five more title winners as an assistant coach for The College of New Jersey. Four of those came in lacrosse (2005 and 2006) and three more in field hockey (1995, 1996, and 2011). She began her coaching career at TCNJ as a graduate assistant and has been a fixture on the sidelines ever since and currently serves as a full-time assistant for both field hockey and lacrosse.
