The 1988 TCNJ lacrosse team entered as the defending NCAA Champions and were riding a 14 game winning streak. A veteran defensive core of Nancy Warren, Marie Whalen, and goalie Sandy Stockl were poised to make life difficult on any competition. On the offensive end, the Lions were tasked with replacing several key players, but did return Deanna Beuerle, Lisa Rosener, Margie Flynn, and Penny Kempf.

The Lions opened the season with convincing victories over Swarthmore and Salisbury. In the Lions third game of the season, Beuerle scored eight goals in a 16-6 win over Shippensburg to help the Lions avenge one of their two losses from a season ago.

TCNJ would go on to win their next eight games without playing a single contest within seven goals. A trip to Division I Rutgers put the Lions 25 game winning streak to the test. The Lions were pushed to the brink, but left New Brunswick 12-11 victors to push the streak to 26 games.

After a 12-4 win over Rowan, the Lions faced Division I Northwestern. The Lions suffered an 11-5 setback ending the winning streak at 27 games. The Lions would bounce back by defeating Millersville 15-5 next time out.

TCNJ closed out the 1988 regular season by hosting Ursinus in what would become a two overtime thriller. The Bears topped the Lions 5-4, but TCNJ still qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

Beuerle and Robin Meyh each scored four goals in the opening round of the tournament to guide the Lions past Denison 18-4. Against Johns Hopkins in the National Semifinals, Beuerle recorded antoher hat trick to help TCNJ to a 13-7 win.

The Lions reached their fourth straight NCAA Championship game and awaiting TCNJ was William Smith. The Lions got another four goal performance from Beuerle and four goals from Lee Moreau to capture a second straight title 14-11. Moreau and Kempf were named to the All-Tournament team.

Flynn, Kempf, Meyh, and Stockl each earned First-Team All-America Honors. Regina Brunetti was named All-America Honorable Mention to bring the total number of All-Americans to five.

Moreau scored 64 goals and 23 assists to lead the team in both categories. Eight Lions would score double digit goals for the squad that outscored opponents 260-108 on the year.
