One of the most successful pitchers in Lions’ baseball program history, Howard Forman toed the rubber for Trenton State College from 1989 to 1992. He earned All-American honors in 1991 and 1992 and was named the CoSIDA College Division Baseball Academic All-American of the Year in 1992.

Best defined as a durable winner, the Edison, NJ product compiled an incredible 26-4 record during his career, which included a program-record 18 complete games. Coach Rick Dell described his talented hurler as having a keen ability to locate pitches and exploit weaknesses in opposing hitters Forman holds the record for innings pitched in a season tossing 116 and one-third in 1991, ranks second all-time in wins (26), innings pitched (298 and two-thirds), and shutouts (4) and third in starts with 37.

His nine wins in a season are the second-most all-time and he achieved it twice, reeling off nine mound victories in 1991 and 1992. Forman amassed 49 appearances in his career, 153 strikeouts, a lifetime earned run average of 3.59, and a 5-1 overall record in NCAA tournament play.

After posting a 7-1 record sophomore season that included a shutout win over Juniata College in the 1990 NCAA tournament, the tall right-hander spearheaded TSC’s memorable the 1991 season that culminated in a national runner-up finish. It was the first trip to the Division III World Series in program history as the Lions advanced to the national championship title game. Forman won two games during the World Series tournament and was also named Most Valuable Player at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals. (That 1991 team was inducted into The College of New Jersey Athletic/Alumni Hall of Fame as a Team of Distinction in 2010.)

Forman followed up his junior season by putting forth a marvelous senior year. Named co-captain at the season’s onset, he continued to win games, registering a 9-2 record en route to being named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year. He was also selected as TSC’s Most Valuable Player and earned his third consecutive Pitcher of the Year award for the Lions.

The post-season honors continued to roll in for Forman in 1992. He earned All-American honors and became the first student-athlete in the College’s history to be named CoSIDA Baseball Academic All-American of the Year. Forman was again recognized for his athletic and academic prowess when he became just the third Lion in college history to be named the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Winner. He also won the Varsity T Award at Trenton State as the Most Outstanding Males Athlete during 1991-92 calendar year.

Forman graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in political science. He was the first recipient of the Pete Apostoleris Post-graduate Scholarship in 1992 and was also an inductee into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society.
