Hall of Fame
Sandra Petway entered the college in 1967 and before she graduated, changed the women's athletic program. Her dedication to sports helped her excel in basketball softball, track and field, and volleyball. This all-around athlete earned fifteen varsity letters and was a starter in all four sports.Â
Perhaps one of her most profound acts of leadership was co-founding the women's track and field program. She and teammate, Estelle Sey '71, were instrumental in making the program a reality. The women's team has been highly competitive since its inception, finishing 14th at the 1996 NCAA Division ill indoor championships.Â
Petway's athletic ability and leadership lead her to a successful career as a coach. In 1973, this pioneer became the head track and field coach at Rutgers University, NJ. Under her guidance, the Rutgers team had some of their more successful seasons. She served in this capacity for seven years.Â
Her drive and determination in sports has carried her beyond athletics. Petway is currently a division sales manager for Knoll Pharmaceuticals, NJ.
