One of the hardest hitters to ever wear the Lions football uniform, Greg Bellotti enters the Hall of Fame as one of the most complete competitors to have ever worn the blue and gold.
Bellotti played for the Lions from 1988 through 1991. He earned All ECAC honors in addition to being cited as honorable mention on the Champion All-America team in 1990, while playing safety for the first team to ever advance to the NCAA tournament in program history. He was a New Jersey Athletic Conference honoree in 1989, 1990, and 1991 and was named team captain for TSC in 1991.
While his talents on the field were easy to identify, his ability to lead was equally impressive. Bellotti was an exceptional teammate and was an integral component to a defensive unit in 1990 that registered five consecutive shutouts. Bellotti was at his best when the stakes were the highest as he led the Lions with eight tackles in their 24-14 NCAA tournament win over Ithaca College. His jarring hit on the quarterback caused a late-game fumble to seal TSC’s first-ever NCAA tournament victory. Bellotti also led the team in tackles the following week against Hofstra with 10.
His six interceptions in 1990 ranks among the best-ever in a single season in program history. He also racked up 44 tackles (29 solo) and five pass deflections. Bellotti followed that year up 39 tackles, three interceptions, and a pair of sacks in 1991.
The Lions won two NJAC championships during Bellotti’s career in 1988 and 1990. In total, TSC football had a cumulative record of 31-8-2 with Greg Bellotti on its roster.
“Greg Bellotti was an overachiever and the consummate team player,” recalled head coach Eric Hamilton. “It always was and will always be about the team. He led our team the way he played – pedal to the floor with his heart and his head. He was prepared to play each game physically and mentally. These are the traits that make him successful today – a competitor who is prepared to (and expects to) win!”
Since graduating, Bellotti has maintained his presence in Lions’ football and athletics. He is currently president of the GridIron Group and has often served as master of ceremonies at Hall of Fame events. On many occasions, Bellotti pays visit to current TCNJ football players to provide motivation and to further instill Lions’ pride in the program.
Bellotti is currently a Global Director at Siemens. He has been involved in youth sports as a coach of football, basketball, and basketball teams and also works as an NJSIAA football official since 2003. Bellotti has also been a member of the TCNJ Alumni Board for 10 years.
